Teamlead Telemetry Platform
About Six Robotics
At Six Robotics, we build intelligent software that gives Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) the ability to collaborate, adapt on the fly, and execute missions that were previously impossible.
From our base in Oslo, our team of 100+ engineers, researchers, and defence specialists develops our autonomy and swarm platform, used by both government and industry. Working closely with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and end users, we move quickly from ideas to field deployment, solving problems where software meets the real world.
The challenges we work on don’t come with existing playbooks. They demand deep technical thinking, close collaboration across disciplines, and the ability to learn quickly as both the technology and the company evolve.
At Six Robotics, every person executes with precision, adapts to changing conditions, and strengthens the team. If you’re excited about building systems that matter and growing alongside talented people that push boundaries every day, you’ll find no better place to deliver real-world impact.
Six Robotics’ drones produce a lot of data: flight telemetry, logs and media. Today, that data stops at the Ground Control Station (GCS). We’re building the telemetry platform that takes it further, and we’re hiring the first person on the team that will own it.
Once the platform is in place, engineers and customers will be able to see what happened on a flight, debug failures, learn from every mission and operate with confidence. It adds real value to a product that already works.
About the role
You’ll be the first hire on the telemetry platform, with a mandate to lead and grow the team that will own it. You’ll report directly to our CTO. That means two jobs at once. You’ll build the platform hands-on, writing code and making the early architecture decisions. You’ll also work out what skills the team needs and bring those people in.
You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll work closely with our backend engineers, who will be part of the early decisions and the first builds. You’ll also work with the engineers building the edge software running on the GCS, and with the frontend engineer building the dashboard. Your platform connects them.
The platform covers everything between the drone and the dashboard: cloud services, the ingestion endpoint the GCS uploads to, authentication, secure device-to-cloud transport, and the API behind the dashboard. The early decisions will be made together: cloud platform, deployment model, protocols and auth design. We’re hiring you to bring well-reasoned opinions to those decisions.
What you will do
Lead and grow the telemetry platform team. You’ll assess which skills it needs, play an active part in hiring, and build a culture of ownership and technical quality.
Design and build the cloud services that ingest flight data from GCS instances, both after and during flight.
Choose the cloud platform and deployment model, together with our backend engineers, taking vendor compatibility into account.
Design the API contract between GCS clients, the cloud backend and the dashboard, and build secure device-to-cloud transport, including identity for non-human clients.
Take the platform from an internal deployment to a product customers can rely on, and move it from post-flight uploads towards real-time streaming. You’ll run what you build.
What we are looking for
You’ve built enough cloud platforms that the design decisions feel familiar, and you still want to write the code yourself. Being first in doesn’t put you off. You can turn a blank page into an architecture, and an architecture into a hiring plan. You’re comfortable working between the people building software for the drones and the people building what customers see.
You bring strong opinions, but hold them loosely enough to change your mind when someone else is right.
We believe the right candidate brings
8+ years of engineering experience, including at least 4 years building production backend services in public or private cloud.
Experience designing and operating ingestion or device-to-cloud systems, where data comes from clients you don’t fully control.
Sound judgement on API design and architecture, including evolving an API in production.
Experience leading engineers, formally or informally, and helping a team grow and deliver.
Deep experience with Go, Python, Rust or a similar backend language, and a pragmatic attitude to choosing the stack.
Nice to have
Experience with IoT, telemetry, fleet monitoring, drones or robotics, or any system where clients sit in the field and the network can’t be trusted.
Rust on the backend.
Streaming systems with a real-time requirement that justified them.
Media streaming or video pipeline experience.
Why You Should Join
Build at the edge of what’s possible: You’ll work on problems the industry hasn’t solved yet, alongside people who are pushing the boundaries of autonomy, AI, and robotics.
Grow as fast as the company: We believe that chance favours those in motion. The role you’re hired into is just the starting point. As Six Robotics evolves, so will your scope, your responsibilities, and your opportunities.
Work with exceptional people: Surround yourself with people who raise your own standards. You’ll join a team of ambitious engineers and operators who care deeply about the quality of their work. Expectations are high, but so is the willingness to help each other improve.
Ship work that matters. The things you build don't stay in a demo environment. They get deployed, tested, and used where reliability and performance genuinely matter.
Supported by great benefits. Alongside meaningful work, we offer competitive compensation, equity potential, strong pension and insurance plans, gadget budgets, modern equipment, panoramic offices, and the flexibility you need to do your best work.
Our Recruitment Process
We want hiring to be transparent and respectful of your time. We aim to move with momentum while making thoughtful hiring decisions - because every new team member matters.
Our process typically includes:
Initial phone screening (30 min): A conversation about your background, motivation, and the role.
First interview (45 min): Meet the hiring team, learn more about Six Robotics, and discuss your experience.
Second interview (60–90 min): A technical discussion, typically including a take-home assignment or case presentation.
Final interview (45 min): Meet members of our leadership team to align expectations and answer any remaining questions.
Reference checks are conducted before an offer is finalized. We review applications continuously, so don't leave us hanging. Send us your application today!
Our Commitment to Inclusion
At Six Robotics, we are committed to creating a workplace built on respect, integrity, and collaboration. We value different perspectives and experiences, and we believe that diversity within our team strengthens both our work and our culture. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply and help us build technology that makes a real impact.
Security Clearance Requirement
All employees at Six Robotics must be eligible for security clearance. Some roles might require a high level of clearance, depending on the nature of the work. If you are hired, we’ll guide you through any required authorization or clearance process as part of your onboarding. Previous authorization or clearance is not required, but all candidates must be eligible to obtain the necessary approvals if required for their role.
