Lead Product Designer (UX/UI)
About Six Robotics
At Six Robotics, we build intelligent software that gives Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) the ability to collaborate, adapt on the fly, and execute missions that were previously impossible.
From our base in Oslo, our team of 90+ engineers, researchers, and defence specialists develops our autonomy and swarm platform, used by both government and industry. Working closely with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and end users, we move quickly from ideas to field deployment, solving problems where software meets the real world.
The challenges we work on don’t come with existing playbooks. They demand deep technical thinking, close collaboration across disciplines, and the ability to learn quickly as both the technology and the company evolve.
At Six Robotics, every person executes with precision, adapts to changing conditions, and strengthens the team. If you’re excited about building systems that matter and growing alongside talented people that push boundaries every day, you’ll find no better place to deliver real-world impact.
About The Role
We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to design the interface operators use to control Valkyrie — the screens, workflows, and interactions that let them command autonomous assets in the field. You'll be designing for real-time control, situational awareness, and operational trust in environments where clarity, speed, and precision aren't "nice to have" — they're the entire point.
This is a hands-on role. You'll own the design process from concept to implementation, while also starting to build and lead a small (but growing) design team. We're looking for someone who's just as comfortable designing themselves as they are showing others the way.
You'll help shape a product domain from an early stage, with real influence over how operators in the field actually experience and trust the technology they use. We move fast and keep bureaucracy out of the way.
What You Will Do
- Lead design for key GCS (Ground Control Station) capabilities, from early concept through launch
- Own product feature design end to end — from problem framing to shipped, polished UI
- Work closely with engineers, autonomy teams, product, and operators to translate technical and operational requirements into intuitive workflows
- Drive research efforts and generate insight that shapes what we build — talking to operators, testing assumptions, and turning findings into design direction
- Drive the end-to-end design process — wireframes, prototypes, detailed UI specs, and implementation support
- Test and iterate with real users, building feedback into the process continuously
- Lead our design system components, and define and maintain a coherent visual and interaction language that supports real-time control and situational awareness
- Ensure high quality in the final product — sweating the details that make the difference between "usable" and "trusted in the field"
- Solve unsolved problems: tackle complex challenges where there's no existing playbook. Think pragmatically and creatively to design interfaces for remote hardware sensing, 3D spatial awareness, and AI-driven missions
- Start building a design team: setting direction, mentoring, and eventually taking on people leadership as the team grows
- Contribute to roadmap prioritization and product vision across the GCS domain
- Travel to test flights and field operations to drive operator research where it actually happens
What we are looking for
- Minimum 8+ years experience as a product designer (UX/UI), with a proven track record of leading complex product areas end to end
- Have a strong visual design sensibility - you care about craft and polish - paired with real UX depth: you think in flows, systems, and user problems, not just screens
- Have formal training or professional experience in complex systems, with a portfolio that shows deep, pragmatic thinking - not just polished visuals
- Have experience designing for complex, interactive systems - ideally involving spatial data, control interfaces, or high information density
- Have B2B experience and a pragmatic approach to product development
- Have experience leading or mentoring other designers, or are ready to take that step
- Communicate well across disciplines — you can explain design decisions and tradeoffs to people who aren't designers
- Are comfortable with ambiguity and have a bias for action in a fast-moving environment
- Want to build something from the ground up, not just polish what already exists
Nice to have
- Experience designing interfaces for real-time control systems (drones, robotics, vehicles, or aviation platforms)
- Familiarity with defence, intelligence, or mission-critical systems
- Experience with 2D/3D map visualization, telemetry, or command-and-control interfaces
- Background in early-stage product development or entrepreneurial environments
Why You Should Join
Build at the edge of what’s possible: You’ll work on problems the industry hasn’t solved yet, alongside people who are pushing the boundaries of autonomy, AI, and robotics.
Grow as fast as the company: We believe that chance favours those in motion. The role you’re hired into is just the starting point. As Six Robotics evolves, so will your scope, your responsibilities, and your opportunities.
Work with exceptional people: Surround yourself with people who raise your own standards. You’ll join a team of ambitious engineers and operators who care deeply about the quality of their work. Expectations are high, but so is the willingness to help each other improve.
Ship work that matters. The things you build don't stay in a demo environment. They get deployed, tested, and used where reliability and performance genuinely matter.
Supported by great benefits. Alongside meaningful work, we offer competitive compensation, equity potential, strong pension and insurance plans, gadget budgets, modern equipment, panoramic offices, and the flexibility you need to do your best work.
Our Recruitment Process
We want hiring to be transparent and respectful of your time. We aim to move with momentum while making thoughtful hiring decisions - because every new team member matters.
Our process typically includes:
Initial phone screening (30 min): A conversation about your background, motivation, and the role.
First interview (45 min): Meet the hiring team, learn more about Six Robotics, and discuss your experience.
Second interview (60–90 min): A technical discussion, typically including a live case presentation.
Final interview (45 min): Meet members of our leadership team to align expectations and answer any remaining questions.
Reference checks are conducted before an offer is finalized. We review applications continuously, so don't leave us hanging. Send us your application today!
Our Commitment to Inclusion
At Six Robotics, we are committed to creating a workplace built on respect, integrity, and collaboration. We value different perspectives and experiences, and we believe that diversity within our team strengthens both our work and our culture. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply and help us build technology that makes a real impact.
Security Clearance Requirement
All employees at Six Robotics must be eligible for security clearance. Some roles might require a high level of clearance, depending on the nature of the work. If you are hired, we’ll guide you through any required authorization or clearance process as part of your onboarding. Previous authorization or clearance is not required, but all candidates must be eligible to obtain the necessary approvals if required for their role.
