About Us
At Six Robotics, we are pioneering the future of UAV swarm technology. Our software, Valkyrie, enhances drone capabilities through advanced communication tools, perception modules, and intelligent decision-making. By enabling seamless collaboration between UAVs, regardless of platform or mission type, we’re redefining what’s possible in the air.
We collaborate with partners like the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) to ensure integration and scalability with existing hardware. Our goal is to maximize UAV efficiency, functionality, and accessibility across industries.
To power this innovation, we’re building the Six Software Factory: our self-hosted cloud infrastructure, test automation systems, and developer platform.
As our Senior Platform Engineer, you will help lead the way in building, scaling, and maintaining this platform from the ground up. This is your chance to own critical infrastructure decisions, shape engineering culture, and directly accelerate robotics and defense software development.
About the Role
At Six Robotics, we know that achieving our mission requires more than great engineers, it requires an exceptional engineering environment. That’s where you come in.
You’ll be building the Six Software Factory, the foundational platform our engineering teams rely on to build, test, and deploy software for real-world robotics systems.
In practice, the Factory includes self-hosted infrastructure: servers, storage, and a wide range of connected hardware for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test automation. You’ll work with equipment such as GPUs, managed switches, fast and slow storage, IP radios, various types of cameras and gimbals, and navigation hardware.
On top of this, we run a self-hosted cloud stack in a high-availability setup, supporting services, tools, bots, monitoring, test job queues, CI, and CD.
This is not an invisible back-office role, it’s a force multiplier. Every improvement you make to infrastructure, observability, or developer experience will translate directly into faster innovation, safer releases, and higher-impact work across our product teams.
You’ll join an established Factory Team that already consists of 3-4 engineers, with full end-to-end ownership of our infrastructure, and you’ll help shape its growth as we scale further. From day one, you’ll have the freedom to shape our tools, systems, and practices. Your mission will be to ensure reliable, efficient service ("SLA") for fellow developers, even during maintenance, upgrades, expansions, or unexpected hardware failures.
What You Will Do
- Architect, build, and maintain our self-hosted infrastructure: servers, GPUs, IP networking, and HIL setups.
- Operate a self-hosted cloud stack for CI/CD, testing, developer tools, observability, and automation workflows.
- Create highly available services that survive hardware failures, upgrades, and shifting demands without impacting developer velocity.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to unblock development and improve system reliability.
- Lead infrastructure best practices, from provisioning and automation to monitoring and incident response.
You’ll Thrive Here If:
You are a hands-on, strategic engineer who thrives in complex systems and gets energy from enabling others to move fast without breaking things.
You likely:
- Know exactly what happens behind the curtain when you click “Install Kubernetes cluster button" in AWS, and can build it yourself from scratch.
- Are a true software engineer at heart, with a passion for delivering high-quality developer value, combined with the capability to solve deep technical challenges.
- Have seen what can go wrong with self-hosted HIL CI systems, and are ready to design them the right way.
- Are passionate about building world-class engineering environments where teams can truly thrive.
- Combine big-picture strategic thinking with a focus on unlocking practical, short-term wins along the way.
- Are a seasoned Linux user who knows the system inside and out.
- Have efficient and precise technical communication skills.
It’s Essential That You:
- Have firsthand experience scaling self-hosted HIL CI systems in a professional setting.
- Have worked hands-on with bare-metal-as-a-service platforms like Proxmox, OpenStack, VMware, or similar.
- Are comfortable navigating the deeper, more complex layers of KVM, Docker, networking, and resource orchestration.
